Summer Health Goals for Men Over 40: Start With the Basics

Sharing is caring! Let your friends know about this post.

Spring has a way of making people optimistic. The days get longer, the weather warms up, and suddenly summer goals feel within reach: lose the winter weight, get stronger, have more energy for the kids, feel good at the beach.

Many men in their 40s also start wondering whether an HGH supplement could give them a head start. In this article, we will help you set summer goals that are realistic, show you which habits matter most, and explain where HGH supplements fit, if at all.

Summer health goals for men over 40

Step 1: Pick one or two clear goals

Vague goals such as “get in shape” are hard to act on. Choose one or two specific goals with a date:

  • Lose 2 inches from my waist by July 31.
  • Do 10 push-ups in a row by June 30.
  • Walk 8,000 steps a day for the next 12 weeks.
  • Sleep seven hours a night, five nights a week.

Step 2: Build habits that move those goals

Strength training

Two to three sessions a week of basic lifts protects muscle and burns fat. It is the single best investment for men over 40.

Daily movement

Longer days make it easier to walk, cycle, or swim. Use them.

Sleep

Your largest natural growth hormone pulse happens during deep sleep early in the night [1]. Summer evenings can push bedtimes later, so protect your sleep schedule.

Food

Build meals around protein and vegetables, and watch summer extras such as beer, sugary drinks, and snacks at gatherings.

Step 3: Use what you already know about growth hormone

You can support your body’s own growth hormone without buying anything:

  • Train hard. Intense exercise triggers a natural growth hormone release [2].
  • Sleep deeply. Deep sleep and growth hormone decline together with age [3].
  • Avoid constant snacking. A study in men found that fasting increased growth hormone secretion [4]. You do not need long fasts, but leaving a few hours between meals and avoiding late-night eating can help.

Step 4: Decide whether to add an HGH supplement

HGH supplements do not contain growth hormone. They are dietary supplements, mostly amino acids, and they are not FDA approved [5]. Mayo Clinic notes that even prescription HGH shows little benefit for otherwise healthy adults [6].

If your basics are in place and you still want to try one, choose a product with a full ingredient list and a money-back guarantee, and track results. Our HGH supplements guide can help you compare. If you plan to keep training into the fall, see our end-of-summer fitness plan.

Step 5: Check in with your doctor

A quick checkup before a new fitness push is smart after 40, especially if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, or have been inactive for a long time.

Earlier versions of this article suggested pairing summer goals with HGH supplements as a key strategy. We have rewritten it to focus on the habits that matter most.
